Not all agents work the same way. Find one that makes you comfortable with the local market, their background and experience, and the way they work. Find out how an agent works, and if you're comfortable with that, choose to work with them. If you're not comfortable, it's okay to move on to an agent team that makes you comfortable. You are the client; your agent is your choice.
Here's how we work: we represent you and look out for your interests. We take seriously our fiduciary duty to you. Ask other agents: do they know what this means? The fiduciary duty is the highest duty at law; it is the duty owed by an attorney to their client. It means we act in your interest and do not act against your interest. We share our knowledge and experience with you so you can make the best decision for you. We continue learning and work full time at what we do, helping clients find the right home at the right price and terms.
We still feel young, 29 again, but we in fact have years of life experience since we graduated from UC Berkeley (Frank) and Stanford (Lisa), and then UC Berkeley's Boalt Hall School of Law (both) in 1990. Frank served his 20 years in the Marine Corps and has devoted himself full time to helping real estate clients numbering into the hundreds since 2004. Lisa practiced law, stayed at home with the kids for 10 years and then went into loans and real estate full time with her broker's license in 2003 and started helping clients with loans in 2007, having now analyzed into the hundreds of credit and loan scenarios. We are happy to help by sharing our knowledge and experiences in real estate and life with you.
Purchasing a home is a large, complicated investment - from figuring out your financial plan with the loan and monthly payment, to determining what home and finally navigating through the negotiations, contracts, disclosures and related paperwork, inspections, and more negotiations on repairs or any other issues that arise - until you get the keys. You can't know what you don't know about each of these issues. You don't have to use us as your experienced buyer's agent, but you should use an experienced buyer's agent to protect you and, indeed, get your best outcome.
We encourage you to interview agents and quiz them about all these issues. Do they sound like they have the experience and knowledge to best protect you? Are they educated and trained at a high level? Are you comfortable talking with them?
We also let you know that we need to be comfortable with you and believe we can help you. We ask about your goals and if we don't think we can help you, we'll let you know so that neither of us wastes their time. If we believe we can help you, we'll let you know that as well.
